Selecting a Video Sequence
In the Timeline area that you can browse through the source video and select the portion of the source video to encode to Flash:
On the bottom of the Timeline area you'll find the Timeline ruler and selection area, where the current frame and the selection to encode can be chosen. On the Timeline ruler you'll find marks with the following format:
HH:MM:SS.CC
HH - hour
MM - minute
SS - second
CC - 1/100 of a second, 0 - 99
To simplify the reading of these time marks, Turbine will try to display shorter forms of this format, for example on the above image the trailing zeros are avoided, instead of 00:00:12.00 it displays as 12.00. The bottom right part of the Timeline area displays three text fields with the time instant of current frame Time, the start of selection time Start and the duration period of the current selection Duration.
A selection can be done in two ways:
- Manipulate the timeline by using the mouse
- Typing your selection by using the keyboard
Manipulating the Timeline by Using the Mouse
The most intuitive way to select the current video frame and frame sequence to encode is by using the mouse. To browse the current video frame, simply click and drag the mouse pointer over the Timeline ruler, you'll notice that the current frame mark follows the mouse horizontal position, and that the current displayed frame changes:
Notice that the mouse pointer is over the Timeline ruler - clicking on the area below this ruler chooses the start and end limits of the time period to encode. Dragging the current frame mark to the left or right of the visible area will scroll the Timeline, allowing you to seek on the entire video; this can also be accomplished by using the standard scrollbar on the bottom of the Timeline area.
To change the encoding selection:
- To set the beginning of the selection drag the start selection mark:
Pressing the Shift key while clicking anywhere in the Timeline defines the selection beginning
- To set the end of the selection drag the end selection mark:
Pressing the Control key while clicking anywhere in the Timeline defines the selection end.
Additionaly, you can use the combination Ctrl+Shift+mouse click to move the current selection.
Manipulating the Timeline by Using the Keyboard
Instead of using the mouse you can directly enter the time values that define the current displayed frame and the encoding selection. This can be done by typing the desired time on the Time, Start and Duration text fields on the bottom right corner of the Timeline area:
Setting the Zoom Level
The amount of time you can see at once on the Timeline zone can be selected by clicking on the Zoom Level button, located on the bottom left corner of the Timeline area:
The selected Zoom Level value represents the major divisions (marks) displayed on the Timeline ruler.
